Keep it simple

What a weekend it was in the shala last weekend. We love Peter's visits and are so happy that he was able to come again this year.

His message is so strong: Keep it simple, don't get out of your depth, and approach ashtanga yoga as a life-long practice; not as something to be conquered, not trying to achieve anything, but just as a way of moving energy through your mind-body system.

So.

Simple.

But we get caught, over and over again, in the trap that has been laid for us by this ashtanga yoga practice. The way it's structured leads many practitioners to feel that they are on a journey of progress, towards some end-point. We know on an intellectual level that this isn't true, but yet we strive, day after day, year after year, to 'progress' in our practice.

It takes somebody as experienced, as passionate, and as inspirational as Peter to wake us up to the fact that that's not what ashtanga yoga is all about.

And then, as the weeks and months go on, so many of us forget again and go back to our habitual way of practising, pushing and struggling and trying too hard to achieve something.

That's why we need Peter to come every year!

I've heard Peter giving the same talk almost every year since 2008.

The SAME talk!

If we truly understand what he is trying to get us to understand, our lives on the yoga mat will be exponentially more rewarding.

Thanks to all who came along. I hope to be able to join you all next year.
