Peter Sanson

We’re delighted to let you all know that one of our favourite teachers will be returning to the shala again this year. Peter will teach four morning Mysore-style classes from Thursday the 18th to Sunday the 21st of April inclusive.

It’s a huge thing for us personally to be able to facilitate the visit of Peter Sanson and we couldn’t be happier that he has agreed to come to Dublin again this year to share his vast experience with us and our students.

If you’re not a student of ours, you might not have heard of Peter Sanson, because you won’t find him on social media, youtube, podcasts, or any other method of self-promotion. He keeps a low profile and prefers to connect in-person with the hundreds of students around the world who look forward to practising with him whenever the opportunity arises.

Don’t be fooled by his lack of celebrity. Peter is one of the best teachers of ashtanga yoga that you will ever come across; a genuine master of his craft who has a powerful message for all practitioners of ashtanga yoga.

Peter’s life’s work has been the practice and dissemination of Ashtanga Yoga.

Since meeting his Guru Shri K. Pattabhi Jois in 1989, he has travelled to Mysore, India every year to continue his studies.

Over a 21 year period of study, Peter lived in Mysore for between three and twelve months of each year, immersing himself in the rich tradition of this ancient practice. Guided by Guruji’s masterful hand, Peter completed 4th series and started on 5th – he also received instruction from Guruji on the accompanying Pranayama for advanced asana practice. Over this period he undertook daily Sanskrit studies with senior teacher Professor Sri Narayanacharya.

Peter is one of only a few senior teachers worldwide who have been certified by Guruji to teach 4th series, and he has been awarded placement on Sharath Jois’ honorary teacher list.

For over 20 years, Peter has been tirelessly committed to passing on the practice without a single deviation from the traditional teachings. Central to Peter’s approach is that he views each student as unique and approaches the teaching of Ashtanga as a form of physical therapy. Peter strictly observes that students learn the traditional sequences of asana –  without skipping postures or modifications. As Peter has been practising Ashtanga yoga for over 30 years, he has developed a very natural approach to teaching – he instructs each student one-to-one with lightness and sensitivity. Students attending workshops and classes receive a lot of hands-on help and guidance.

We’ve been practising with Peter Sanson every year since his first trip to Dublin in 2008. In the years when he didn’t include Dublin in his European tour, we always travelled to other countries to connect with and learn from him.

We have huge respect for Peter as an inspirational teacher of ashtanga yoga. His approach to the practice has massively influenced us in our own practice and in our teaching.

We strongly recommend all students, from absolute beginners to advanced practitioners, attend the workshop.

Peter will teach Mysore-style classes each morning and there will be a talk/Q&A session on Sunday after the Mysore-style class.

Start times will be confirmed closer to the date but provisionally they are:

Thursday, Friday: 6am or 7am

Saturday, Sunday: 7am or 8am.

The workshop will take place in Saint Mary’s Parish Centre which is located on the grounds of St. Mary’s church on Haddington Road, Dublin 4.
